The Lodge – Malta
It was built buy an Italian Knight of the Holy Order of St. John. It was used as a hunting lodge. The surrounding areas were very popular for hunting since there were practically nothing around. Only a couple of houses in Cospicua (Bormla) and of course Birgu, where the Knights first settled when they arrived in Malta in 1530.
The Lodge dates back to circa 1580 and stone cut in the rock of the underground cavern was used to built the lodge itself. Many modifications have been done throughout the years.
The steps in the street leading to the Lodge are one of the oldest found in Malta, made of zonqor. For certain events, we also decorate the steps with candles and they create a very nice atmosphere. The residents are usually very cooperative.
